Water & Wastewater

Blackburn Consulting has completed extensive work throughout Central and Northern California for water and wastewater projects including:
  • Pipelines (open cut and tunneled)
  • Penstocks
  • Tanks and Basins
  • Treatment Plants
  • Fish Passage

We evaluate diverse ground conditions for water/wastewater treatment sites and pipeline alignments including soft or unstable ground conditions, areas with shallow groundwater, hard rock, and canal, stream, and river crossings/locations.  The subsurface information and design needs for water and wastewater projects is very diverse due to the variety of structure types and significant changes in ground conditions that can occur, particularly over the length of a pipeline project.   Investigations often consist of acquisition of existing subsurface data, geotechnical borings, trenches, and Cone Penetrometer Testing (CPT).   Site investigation sometimes requires the use of geophysical methods (seismic refraction, ground penetrating radar, resistivity) due to information requirements and access.  Our pipeline work includes various installation methods including open trench, directional drilling, bore and jack, micro-tunneling, and tunnel boring machines.

Our services for water/wastewater projects include:
  • Preliminary Alignment/Site Reviews and Recommendations
  • Geo-Environmental (site assessments)
  • Geotechnical Investigation, Evaluation, and Design Recommendations Report
  • Geotechnical Data Reports
  • Geotechnical Baseline Reports
  • Determination of Site/Alignment Excavatability
  • Subgrade Stabilization Evaluation/Recommendations
  • Assistance with Plans, Specifications and Estimates
  • Construction Inspections and Testing
Blackburn Consulting representatives have worked closely with Federal, State and local agencies on water and wastewater projects giving us the experience to obtain and provide the necessary subsurface information and design details.
