South Sacramento RT Corridor Phase 2

Blackburn Consulting was retained by Sac RT to provide design-level geotechnical services for the new light rail alignment and bridge structures for the SSCP2 project which will provide a double-track extension of Sac RT’s existing light rail line from the existing Meadowview Station to Cosumnes River College. The project includes construction of four new light rail stations, embankment fills up to 35-feet-tall, several miles of retaining walls and noise barrier walls, light rail bridges over Morrison Creek/UPPRR and Cosumnes River Boulevard, and 3 pedestrian bridges. Geotechnical-related design challenges include highly expansive clay, settlement of existing utilities below new embankment fills and significant retaining wall surcharge loads from light rail trains. Blackburn Consulting completed over 60 exploratory borings, laboratory testing and engineering analysis and is in the process of completing a geotechnical report for the new light rail alignment and foundation reports for the bridge structures.
