Auburn Airport Expansion

Blackburn Consulting provided geotechnical, geohazards, and geo-environmental reports for Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the airport’s expansion.  We provided resident engineering, observation, and testing services during construction. Improvements included 600 feet of runway extension, widening the runway by 15 feet, taxiway improvements – Phase 1, new hangars for Phase 2.  Interesting factors include lightweight fill to minimize loads on 100 year old PG&E tunnel, identification of naturally occurring asbestos, a deep subdrain to mitigate settlement of a 35-foot fill, coordination with the contractor and PG&E, and, identification of hard rock for blasting, and fill balance estimates.
