St. Helena Road Rockfall
A major rockfall occurred in January 2005 that closed both lanes of St. Helena Road to traffic. The rockfall occurred in a 40 ft high, near-vertical cut within jointed volcanic rock. Blackburn Consulting performed emergency geotechnical assessment and construction observations to remove the rock and stabilize the slope. The road was re-opened to traffic nine days after the rockfall occurred.
