Sly Creek Dam

This project involves design for modifications to a dam on a tributary to the South Fork of the Feather River. Sly Creek Dam is an earth fill dam that requires an increase in crest elevation and spillway modifications. Retaining walls, approach modifications, and a new spillway bridge are required to accommodate the raising of the crest. The crest raise will be accomplished using an MSE wall that is up to 12 feet in total height. Blackburn Consulting completed a field investigation consisting of exploratory drilling, seismic refraction, and geologic mapping, and provided preliminary and final design input for crest raise options, retaining walls, approach cuts and fills, and bridge replacement. Potential impact to dam stability, from construction of the MSE wall, was evaluated along with local stability of the wall. This project involved coordination with and approval from SFWPA, DSOD, and FERC.
