Woodland Sports Park
City of Woodland, California
The City of Woodland Parks and Recreation Department selected Blackburn Consulting (BCI) to provide full service Construction Management, Geotechnical Engineering, Materials Testing, and Special Inspections for the Woodland Sports Park – Phase 1. This project was planned and constructed to provide state-of-the-art sports and recreation amenities for the City of Woodland.
Woodland was faced with a serious issue almost as soon as grading for the fields began. BCI investigated the conditions, made recommendations and the contractor was able to continue work with no delays. BCI used soil stabilization techniques proven on previous roadway projects in this new environment, resulting in not only a stable foundation for the fields, but one of the best prepared bases the artificial turf manufacturer had ever encountered.
BCI coordinated with three separate contracts, three separate design consultants and three separate contractors for the City of Woodland’s facilities. Several challenges were encountered during construction, but the design and construction team worked cooperatively to resolve all issues in a timely, cost-effective manner. Because of BCI’s partnering approach and active change order management, the City had the time and budget not only to open on their target date of May 2008, but to add several features such as landscaping, an entry fountain and overflow parking.
Due to the new popularity of the Woodland Sports Park for many athletic programs and tournaments, the city has experienced a huge economic boost. Woodland Sports Park – Phase 1 now proudly hosts quality, family-oriented recreation while fostering community pride, competitive spirit and healthy living.
